This appears to be another senseless killing motivated by fear and actuated by gun courageousness. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution  01/29/2013 A Gwinnett County man is accused of shooting and killing a man who friends said pulled into the wrong driveway.Phillip Walker Sailors, 69, of Lilburn, was booked into the Gwinnett County jail Sunday afternoon and charged with murder for the death of Rodrigo Abad Diaz, according to jail records and his arrest warrant. Florida Loud Music Killer Indicted

Florida Loud Music Killer Indicted Many of you are familiar with the teen who was shot to death for apparently playing music too loudly. The unexpected and violent death of a teen is always tragic, but this one hits even closer to home, as the teen's mother was a co-worker of my wife.  The law will now take its course.  The Florida grand jury has indicted the shooter on first degree murder, but the prosecutors do not plan to seek the death penalty.  Vigilantism seems to be on the rise, in light of the recent incident where a wheelchaired man…

Walmart Security Kills Alleged Shoplifter

Walmart Security Kills Shoplifter  Thou shalt not steal.  Thou shalt not kill.  Which is the greater sin?  Recently, in Dekalb County, Georgia, a suspected shoplifter accused of stealing DVDs died at the hands of Walmart security personnel.  It is likely the family of the victim will initiate a wrongful death lawsuit against the retail giant.  Based upon some of the recent interviews with Walmart representatives, my guess is that the family will be in for a vigorous fight.  While Walmart has gone on record as stating, "No amount of merchandise is worth someone's life,"  the store has already started to distance…

Georgia Fatal Car Crashes

Be Careful:  Georgia More Traffic Fatalities 2012.   There have been 1,013 traffic fatalities in Georgia as of November 15, 2012.  This number has already surpassed the number of deaths on the roadways in 2011.  We are entering the most traveled time of the year with the holidays approaching.  We are pleading that you take extra precaution to avoid any serious traffic wrecks.  Often fatal car crashes are due to speeding, driver or passenger not properly restrained (no deatbelt), and too often due to driver impairment (drunk driving).  We want you to have a safe and happy holiday season and…

M&H at Morrow High School

On yesterday, I had an opportunity to participate in the Morrow High School Career Day. There was quite a turn out of adults with varying careers from a Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent to a successful Zaxby's owner. All there to support and encourage the students. After I spoke in the last class for the day, the teacher approached me and expressed a deep concern, especially for the African American males. She thought it a good thing that men such as myself were present as role models for the young men. She seemed a bit discouraged. But, I shared with…

Thank You for Voting!

The presidential election is done.  M&H would simply like to thank those of you around the country who exercised your right and who chose to cast your ballot.  In addition to the national election, there were many hotly contested state and local elections here in Georgia, along with other important issues on the ballot, such as the charter schools amendment.  You chose to be heard.  Your voice.  Your vote.  Thank you.

Public Safety - When is Security Adequate?

Do you feel safe when you are out and about in metro Atlanta? What about when you’re at the mall, using public transportation, going to the amusement park or shopping at the 24 hour superstore? You may feel safe when you are in the mall, inside the store or the amusement park, but what about when you’re in the parking lot or the parking deck on your way to and from your car? Who is responsible for your safety? From shopping centers and malls to public transportation and amusement parks, customers and patrons have been carjacked, raped, shot and beaten…

Dog Owners - Beware!

Recently, a former high school classmate called wanting some legal advice. She told me that she was planning to lease her home to someone who owned a pit bull. She wanted to know if she would be on the hook if the dog attacked someone. My advice – you better believe it! I went on to advise my friend (by the way this was free advice) that she should first avoid renting or leasing to vicious pet owners, or at the very least require that they obtain a general liability renter’s policy to cover any unfortunate events. I suggested that…
